Heroes Honoring Heroes: Lieutenant Mark Donald, U.S. Navy SEAL.

Lt. Mark Donald (U.S. Navy SEAL) has laced up his combat boots on the battlefield for nearly a quarter of a century, but now he is sporting a pair of boots to express his gratitude for his brothers in arms.  The Boot Campaign welcomes Mark Donald to our Boot Hall of Fame—a robust photo gallery of more than 400 heroes, actors, musicians, pro-athletes, and other newsmakers, who are wearing combat boots as a unique display of patriotism and gratitude for those who serve, and have served, in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Mark is a physician assistant, author, professional speaker and leader in the non-profit community.  Born to Mexican mother and Caucasian father Mark grew up appreciating the value of ethnic diversity.  Inspired by his parent’s ideals for “service for others before self,” and a desire to escape the difficulties of home Mark enlisted in the Marine Corps at the early age of 17.

It was during his training as a Reconnaissance Marine he discovered his calling to medicine and by the end of year would don a Navy uniform.  Mark continued to serve the country for nearly a quarter of century as a Navy SEAL, Corpsman and Medical Service Corps officer.

Following retirement Mark worked with a number of programs supporting military, veteran and wounded causes while completing his memoir Battle Ready – Memoir of a SEAL Warrior Medic. Mark has served as Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart for the Commonwealth of Virginia and sat on the board of directors for the Legion of Valor, OASIS Group and the Special Operations Medical Association.  Mark holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska.

His military decorations include the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with “V” for combat distinction, the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Special Warfare (SEAL) breast insignia, Naval Parachutist breast insignia, the Honduran Medal of Merit and various unit and campaign ribbons.

About Battle Ready: Memoir of a SEAL Warrior Medic

From the rigors of BUD/S training to the horrors of the battlefield, Battle Ready dramatically immerses the reader in the unique life of the elite warrior-medic who advances into combat with life-saving equipment in one hand and life-taking weapons in the other. It is also an uplifting human story that reveals how a young Hispanic American bootstrapped himself out of a life that promised a dead-end future by enlisting in the military. That new life begins with the Marines and includes his heroic achievements on the battlefield and the operating table, and finally, of his inspirational triumph over the demons caused by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that threatened to destroy him and his family.

Meet Mark Donald on November 19th in Dallas, TX!

Donald will be with the Boot Campaign on November 19th at GovSec West at the Gaylord Texan Hotel in Dallas, TX.  He will be a guest speaker and will hold a Battle Ready book signing from 9am-3pm.
